Day Thirty-Five: Being Alone vs. Being Lonely

When I was a child and in my youth I had a phobia of being alone.

In the darkness I had been violated and betrayed so loneliness was a

fearful ‘dark passenger’ in my life. I depended on others to fill me up

or distract me I suppose in reality. One day a friend of mine said through

gritted teeth “Gawd Emily, don’t you ever have an original opinion? I

swear you are just a product of everyone else!” The truth hit me like a

metal wrecking ball and I came to the realization that I did depend on

others to define me in goodness and in negativity. I was lonely then.

Now I crave moments I spend alone; I am almost giddy when I have

the luxurious slices of solitude where I get to confidently make a

blueprint of what I will create, do or imagine. Learning to embrace

my solace has come and gone depending on my personal strength

and how my self confidence gauge is doing. The benefits of being

alone; there is no one to put on an act in front of, things crawl

along at your own pace, you are draining none of your energy,

it is self directed, I can fill you up, you can build a solid foundation

with yourself-hey! remember, you are the one that will stick by you

no matter what whether you like it or not.

If you’re searching for someone to constantly make you feel whole

you are Being Lonely. If you are content and purposeful about ensuring you

have time in your schedule for yourself-you are Being Alone.

Today’s focus will be on learning to embrace your time

alone and paying attention to what you have to offer

Day Twenty Four: Wishes Really Do Come True: The Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction came fully out of the closet when Rhonda Byrne

released her world renowned book and film; The Secret. The philosophical

idea behind the Law of Attraction was not her original idea, it was

the thought child of a Californian man named Prentice Mulford in his essays

“Some Laws of Health and Beauty” and “Good And Ill Effects of Thought,”

written in 1891 (Wikipedia).

When I was nineteen I discovered the idea that what you thought about

was what you attracted to your life, while taking a philosophy course at

the University of Alberta. Did this mean that because I had such self

deprecating thoughts, I was the culprit-I drew all of those negative things

towards myself with my obscured electromagnetic current.

I had felt like such a target my whole life and had no faith in

myself; so how was it that, with this damaging thought pattern,

I would ever pull myself out of the dank corridors of my thought

patterns and begin to attract and have faith that any form of

abundance could come to my life?

What is The Law of Attraction you ask? Well, it is the idea

that what you think about and wish for you attract to your life.

There is a positive connotation behind the philosophy but think

about it, when you are cloaked in your own personal darkness

do you attract tiny birds and butterflies to yourself? So the

philosophy goes both ways. This means that even in the private

confines of your brain, you should try and think positive thoughts

so you can reap the bounty of great personal abundance.

Many years ago my sister and I had a spiritual book club and

The Law of Attraction reintroduced itself back into my life.

This time I was truly balanced, happy, connected to my source

and open to new ideas. I wrote down a list of things I wanted for

myself in the upcoming year; the list was not unrealistic or

far-fetched; it contained simply things like; learn to make

pottery, work on my book, learn to play guitar…I placed

the list in the back of the book selection for that month-

The Secret-and forgot about it for the next year. Travel

forward two years, my sister had passed away, I was

missing her and I picked that book off the bookshelf.

Out fell the list, as if by divine intervention, and I re-read

it. I had accomplished all of the things on that list without

complete conscious awareness. It was such an amazing

feeling. I rushed to pick up the phone to call my sister and

then realized she was gone-so I celebrated silently and

that was the moment I believed that anything was possible.

Today’s focus will be on the power of your thoughts

and how you have the power to create the life you wish for

Journal Activity-The Law of Attraction List

Make a list of all of the things you would like to learn and attract to

your life. Imagine you have a little magic genie whom can grant

you wishes. Don’t limit yourself. Review the list and think about

how you can make some of these things a reality. Remember

the Law of Attraction is a tool but you make the wishes come

true by believing you deserve them and working towards making

them part of your life.

Day Four: Achieving Balance by Strengthening Bonds

Good Morning

I awoke this morning ready and excited to write another post.

While I was working 12 hour days as a Counselor/Special Needs Teacher/

Mom and Wife I found that the most challenging thing to achieve was balance.

The thing I neglected most was my relationships with other women-my

dear friends knew that once the year began I would simply fade away

into the abyss and not return calls or emails. I was barely able to cope with

the responsibilities that lay directly in front of me.  I missed my girlfriends

and those heart to hearts where we would talk things through and vent and

praise and lift one another up. Where we would eat delicious indulgences, drink

overpriced fancy coffee and dry each others tears in the middle of a bustling

coffee house. Those moments balanced me and allowed me a chance to connect

deeply and intimately with women I held dear to my heart. I vowed to myself

consistently that I would make plans with those incredible women, but the guilt

would seep in after I calculated the diminished hours spent with y family after

a demanding work week. So those moments slipped into nothingness.

For Day Four we are going to focus on strengthening relationships.

Enjoy the journey…Stay Balanced…

When you awaken think about one person-outside your family-

that fills you up and makes you feel more balanced-now later in the day

call that person and plan to see them if they are close by.

Morning Meditation: Sound Fox Channel-Youtube: Abraham Hicks-A renowned spiritual

teacher-Relationships-Guided Meditation:

Journal Entry: Brainstorm about your circle of friends. Are there any friends

that are so negative they actually drain your energy (I call them psychic vampires)?

Now think about the friend that lifts you up each and every time you see them,

consider prioritizing that friendship. Write about what makes that friendship so

30 Minutes of Physical Activity: Call that ‘soul friend’ and invite them to go for

a walk in nature-if you have kids or animals take them too. See if you can make it

a regular date with that friend.

Art Project: Create a journal as a gift for that friend so that she can write her

thoughts hopes and dreams down.

Buy a plain covered journal, a paint brush and some Modge Podge (Craft Store).

Print off the text and some images that suit her/him.

Brush the Modge Podge on the back of the picture/text and then brush it

down on the front while ensuring it stays smooth. You can lay pictures on top of one another.

Write something inspiring in the front about what she/he means to you.

Adorn it with beads or buttons-using a hot glue gun.

Inspirational Video: An Australian man-on his 30th birthday asks his friends to

not buy him gifts but to buy a gift and bring it to his house with some wrapping paper.

I won’t give it away-just watch.
