Fighting for societal change or something you believe in 100%
is an enlightening experience. It can evolve you as a
human being. When you join a collective of people that share
those beliefs; fighting for the chosen cause can be a spiritual
experience. When you are so deeply moved or inspired by
something and you share that passion with others it can
be one of the most fulfilling and meaningful activities.
Emptiness creeps around the corners of your life when you
have no connection to anything outside yourself-nothing
to fight for-nothing to live for-nothing to unite you to others.
The earth, justice and equality are on the top of my list. I am
not saying I never throw a piece of recycling in the garbage
from time to time, but when I do I feel a deep sense of guilt
for not following my own agenda about what is important in
life. Some of the most powerful times in my life were when I
was protesting for a cause. Last year I was involved in a walking
float for the Pride parade with my GSA group; The look on the faces
of mys students-some of whom I had seen in very dark places-
when they were honored and embraced by the sea of supportive
like-minded beings was something so powerful-something I would
never forget. A reminder that all of the years I had spent fighting
for equal rights for the LGBTQA community had led me to this
place of sincere love. Some of the most inspired individuals of our
time fought for what they believed in throughout history and were
thought of as heroes for the cause. They received any sacrifices or
punishments with grace and solidarity-unmovable and unchangeable.
Today’s focus is on standing up for your beliefs and
building and supporting a community of other like-minded
individuals.

Journal Entry: Write about a time in your life where you stood
up for your beliefs or someone else? What did it feel like? What were the
challenges? Did the result make the sacrifice worthwhile?
